How to make a ringtone on iPhone from your own audio
An iPhone ringtone needs a short audio clip and a final export through GarageBand. An M4R file prepares the sound; GarageBand handles adding it to your ringtone choices.
1. Prepare a short clip
Choose the part of the audio you want to hear. Ringtones should be 30 seconds or less, so trim cleanly at the start and end. Clipex can create an M4R export from an edited audio clip; it does not install or assign the ringtone for you.
2. Export it through GarageBand
- Open GarageBand on iPhone and create or open a project.
- Import the prepared audio from Files and make sure the project is within the ringtone length limit.
- Open the project browser, touch and hold the project, then choose Share.
- Choose Ringtone, name it, and export.
3. Assign it
After export, GarageBand offers the option to use the sound as a standard ringtone, text tone, or contact tone. You can also choose it later in Settings → Sounds & Haptics.
